Marine terminal coming to Hunts Point

Nyc.Gov

Plans for another marine terminal to help with the movement of goods in New York City is in the works. This one is in the Bronx.

It was about this time last year, the Adams administration announced plans to transform the Brooklyn Marine Terminal to be part of freight deliveries. Now Mayor Adams says the same thing is going to happen in Hunts Point where the city plans to take down an old jail facility on a barge and replace it with a marine terminal.

"Our Maritime for the most part, it has remained dead and you have not witnessed a lot of activity but that is not where we are going in the future."

Once the terminal is fully operational, the result will be about nine thousand fewer truck trips a month on city streets. Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson is excited about that.

"Reducing our carbon footprint, reducing truck traffic, breaking clearer air, building healthy families."

The terminal is expected to open in about five years.
