Fifth Avenue being transformed in NYC

Nyc.gov

New York City will be transforming a very popular section of Fifth Avenue in Midtown.

Mayor Adams' administration is announcing full funding is now in place for the 400 million dollar redesign of Fifth Avenue between Central Park and Bryant Park. The plan would make sidewalks about 50 percent wider and reduce the number of lanes for vehicles from five to three. That will allow for double the space for pedestrians at what's an iconic popular street in the city and the district Councilman Keith Powers represents.

"This is going to be a transformative experience for people, transformative for people who come to visit the city, to be a welcoming space and a much more inviting space, and hopefully something that when they go home, they'll talk about."

Work is not expected to start until year 2028.
