NJ Transit rail service resumes on Tuesday, May 20

The NJ Transit rail strike that began Friday morning is over.

NJ Transit and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen reached a tentative agreement for a new contract late yesterday. Agency CEO Kris Kolluri says regular rail service will not begin until Tuesday morning,

“We have to pre-position the equipment, we have to do safety checks, we have to make sure that the engineers who have now officially concluded the strike, or soon to conclude the strike, are now called into work.”

NJ Transit will offer expanded bus service today for commuters at 4 temporary park and ride lots, including one at the Hamilton Train Station, but officials are still asking people to work from home if possible. Governor Phil Murphy says the deal, which still must be ratified by the union, is good for labor, commuters and taxpayers, but he wouldn’t give specifics.
