At least two people are dead and a number of others are recovering from injuries after a Mexican Navy sailing ship hit the Brooklyn Bridge over the weekend.

Video shows the ship's towering masts snap as they struck the decking of the Brooklyn Bridge around 8:30 Saturday night. There were 277 people on board and numerous sailors could be seen dangling from the broken masts. Chief Wilson Aramboles says the ship's power went out.

"The captain that was maneuvering the ship, lost power of the ship and the current and the mechanical function caused the ship to go right into the pillar of the bridge."

The Brooklyn Bridge as briefly shutdown to allow inspects to examine it.
The ship was on a visit to New York and had just left a pier and was headed out to sea before the crash. The NTSB is investigating the crash.
