Police now have a 14-year-old in custody in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old outside a Bronx school on Monday.
Police say the 14-year -old got into a fist fight with another person outside of Bronx Latin School in the Morrisania section late on Monday that involved two rival gangs. Chief Joseph Kenny says shortly after the 14-year-old allegedly fired three rounds into a crowd of teens, with one bullet hitting a 16-year-old girl in the head, killing her.
"The victim Evette Jeffery was not involved in this dispute. She was an innocent bystander who was simply trying to take cover behind the brick wall."
Authorities on Tuesday arrested the 14-year-old who tried to escape capture.
