The Adams administration is expanding cleaning at some of the city's busiest parks
Mayor Adams says there's money in the fiscal year 2026 budget set aside to add a second cleaning shift to dozens of more parks. Parks Commissioner Sue Donahue says those parks will now be cleaned late in the day Thursday through Monday for a second time.
"Will handle trash removal and rest room cleanliness. They will help us remove graffiti and also importantly assist with rodent mitigation."
More than 400 new parks workers will be hired and dedicated to second shift maintenance. Also, as part of the second cleaning shift, Parks staff will keep restrooms open about two hours longer each day.
