Mayor proposes big expansion of free after school programing

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is proposing a first ever universal after school program.

The mayor is proposing 331-million dollars in his upcoming budget for the so called “After-School for All” program to allow all public students from kindergarten through eighth grade access to free after school programming by the fall of 2027.

"will be able to participate in sports, STEP programs, robotics, take field trips and more. To continue the development of the child and their mind during their crucial periods of time when brain development is taking place.

The new funding will support the addition of 20,000 new seats over the next three school years. This would be the first major after school expansion in a decade.
