Subway ridership is up and fare evasion is way down in the New York City subway system.

The MTA revealed fresh data at Monday committee meetings that show fare evasion on the subway and bus system combined is down 30 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to the second quarter of last year. President of NYC Transit Demetrius Crichlow

"The gate guards are deterring fare evasion. Where the gate guards are deployed there's been a 36 percent decrease in fare evasion. 36 percent just from the gate guards. We know that's been the super highway of fare evasion."

Fare revenue is up 67 percent compared to 2021. MTA says that's thanks to an increase in ridership and more people paying to use the system.
