Authorities have broken up a huge auto theft ring in New Jersey.

Since July of last year, NJ Attorney General Matt Platkin says dozens of high end vehicles were stolen from Morris, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, and Burlington counties and then taken to the Bronx.

"Middle level and high level fences that we identify received the cars, paid the theft crews, stored the vehicles in parking garages until they could be shipped to West African countries."

11 people face serious charges related to this auto theft ring. Some of the vehicle thefts involved home break ins. Platkin notes that while auto thefts have been a big problem over recent years, auto thefts declined11 percent in 2024 over 2023.
