Big drop in NYC crime, record low shootings

New York City continues to get safer and safer.

Crime states reveal an 11 percent drop in overall index crime in the first quarter of the year compared to the same time frame as last year. Stats now show overall crime down 15 straight months . Newly appointed Police Commissioner Jessica Tish highlights that shootings were down 23 percent in the first quarter.

"It's not just the best first quarter ever for shootings, it's the best quarter ever. This is huge. This is lives saved."

Robberies and shoplifting which has been a big problem in recent years are also down. Subway crime dropped by 18 percent. Mayor Adams credits the NYPD and the strategy of concentrating officers in high crime areas.

"Thanks to the tens of thousands of brave men and women of the NYPD, New York City remains the safest big city in America, and we are only getting safer."
