Transportation secretary visits sinkhole repair work

Traffic issues are expected to continue this week in Morris County related to a closure on Interstate 80 from sinkholes forming.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy visited the sinkhole repair work Saturday and is vowing to do what it takes to address the problem on Interstate 80.

"At a later point will come a conversation about money, we are not down. what has to be done is the key question now. How do we make this safe."

Governor Murphy joined him, saying crews expect to have the westbound lanes on Interstate 80 opened within a week but the Eastbound lanes will remain shut for 6 to 8 more weeks. This after a third sinkhole formed on 80 last Wednesday in Wharton. Officials say they are a result of old abandoned mineshafts underneath I-80 collapsing.

Meanwhile, NJ Transit is now offering 50 percent discount on train tickets from several Morris County train stations in the sinkhole area.
