A new multi agency task force is being formed to improve the quality of life for residents in Greenwich Village and the West village in Lower Manhattan.

The task force will bring together law enforcement, elected officials, and local leaders. Community leader Brian Maloney will be the Co Chair. He says there's been quality of life and safety issues in the area of Washington Square Park for more than five years.

"Petty larceny and assaults are significantly on the rise and while drug arrests are up nearly 100 percent in our area versus 2019, our community simply doesn't feel safe anymore."

The task force will meet twice a month to coordinate walk throughs and responses to street drug sales, retail theft, mental health situations and infrastructure updates.
