Farmers in New York state are starting to feel the impact of tariffs.
Governor Hochul sat down with farmers and agriculture leaders in the state on Tuesday, the same day that Mexico and Canada launched retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. Hochul says farmers who are already struggling because of inflation are concerned because they are facing higher costs on goods from Canada.
"They already got the notice that prices are going up from wood shavings and the energy costs are going up because we get a lot of our energy from Canada."
She says 40 percent of agriculture products made by farmers in the state are exported to other countries like China which announced retaliatory tariffs.
"This is going to really hurt their margins, make it difficult for them."
Hochul says tariffs are projected to raise the costs on the average New Yorker by as much as 12-hundred dollars a year.
