NYPD loosening college credit requirements to boost numbers

The NYPD will be lowering its college credit requirements for joining the force in order to try and attract mor recruits.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tische announced on Wednesday that incoming recruits will only need 24 college credits as opposed to the current required 60. Tische admits the NYPD in her words is facing a hiring crisis with numbers dropping over the last few years. In 2023, close to one third of NYPD applications had to be disqualified because they didn't meet the credit requirement. Meanwhile, Tische is focused on making sure aspiring officers are physically fit by bringing back a running test. They will have to complete a one and a half mile run in less than 14 minutes and 21 seconds.
