Governor Kathy Hochul is deciding not to remove New York City Mayor Eric Adams from office but wants more oversight at City Hall.

The governor announced a proposal Thursday to have a deputy inspector monitor the actions of Mayor Adams because of his corruption case. She also wants money for other city officials to be able to sue the federal government if needed if Adams refuses to do so.

“I was deeply troubled by the accusations leveled at Mayor Eric Adams, not just the initial indictment but the recent allegation of a quid pro quo with the Trump Administration.”

Hochul says she wants voters to decide Mayor Adams’ fate and thinks removing him would cause disruption. Meanwhile, A judge has not yet decided whether to honor the Department of Justice’s request to drop corruption charges against the mayor.
