Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents will be working at the Rikers Island jail complex in a further crackdown on illegal immigration in New York City.

Mayor Eric Adams says he is working on an executive order to reestablish the ability for ICE agents to operate on Rikers Island. They would specifically be focused on helping the correctional intelligence bureau with investigations related to violent criminals and gangs. This comes after Adams met with The Trump Administration border Czar Tom Homan on Friday. It’s unclear if the executive order will get around sanctuary city laws which prevent local authorities from cooperating with ICE. City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and Immigration Committee Chair Alexa Avilés say they are reviewing the matter.
