The Justice Department is suing New York state over part of its sanctuary city laws for immigrants.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi says the lawsuit centers around the state banning agencies from sharing motor vehicle data with federal authorities for purposes of immigration enforcement.

"They are given a green light to any illegal alien in New York where law enforcement officers can not check their identity if they are pulling them over."

Governor Kathy Hochul says she expects what she calls a worthless publicity driven lawsuit to be a failure. New York's Attorney General Letitia James says the Green Light law protest the rights of all New Yorkers and keeps our communities safe and she's prepared to defend it.
