New York Governor Kathy Hochul is trying to stop a big gas and electric rate hike from hitting New Yorkers.
Governor Hochul is furious that Con Edison is seeking a 13 percent increase in natural gas prices and an 11 percent increase in electric.
"I am going to stand up and say no, go back to the drawing board and figure this out but you are not going to get that kind of rate increase from our hardworking New Yorkers, particularly our seniors.
Hochul is urging the Public Service Commission to reject the increase. Con Edison says it needs the big increase to maintain the existing infrastructure and to make upgrades to meet the higher demand from people switching to heat pumps and electric vehicles. Con Ed services New York City and Westchester homeowners and businesses.
