There's pushback by New York City officials when it comes to potential raids of migrants under the Trump Administration. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has reportedly started making arrests of migrants wanted for crimes in sanctuary cities, including New York.
New York State Attorney General Letitia James says there are laws in New York that protect immigrants and limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement efforts and those laws she says should be followed by all New York law enforcement and officials. A New York City public schools Committee voted this week to support a resolution to reaffirm that schools are welcoming to migrants. This is after the Trump administration gave the okay for ICE agents to arrest migrants at schools. Meanwhile, a memo went out saying the NYPD will not engage in civil immigration enforcement. Mayor Eric Adams says the police department will work with ICE regarding criminality.
