Governor Kathy Hochul is offering more details about her New York City subway safety plan which includes a huge surge in officers that will start next week.
Hochul says 750 additional officers will cover subway platforms and stations and in addition to that, there will be two officers riding each overnight subway train. This follows a number of high profile subway attacks.
"There has been an increase in some felony assaults and some murders which is what really shakes that foundation of security that everyone deserves to have."
The governor says the state will be pay 77 million dollars over the next six months for the additional NYPD presence. Meanwhile, Hochul's goal is also to get LED lighting in all stations by years end and add new protective platform barriers at 100 more stations.
