Traffic enters lower Manhattan after crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, Feb. 8, 2024, in New York.

New York City is cracking down on drivers who try and evade the new congestion pricing toll for south of 60th Street in Manhattan

On Tuesday, the NYPD issued 82 summonses, seized a number of vehicles and made two arrests in connection with drivers trying to avoid paying the congestion toll which just started this past Sunday. Meanwhile the city’s Department of Transportation is proposing new rules that more clearly establish requirements for license plate visibility, banning dirt, rust, glass or plastic coverings or other substances that make a plate unreadable.
