New York City's fire department is honoring a chaplain who died from 9-11 related illnesses.
Many were on hand for a plaque dedication ceremony at Engine 257/Ladder 170 in Brooklyn Friday for Chaplain Monsignor John Delendick. He was a 28-year veteran of the FDNY who died from World Trade Center related cancer a year ago. Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker says he was a fixture at FDNY ceremonies.
"He never forgot who was left behind and the years that followed were devoted to 9-11 families and this department."
Delendick spent eight months bringing families to the World Trade Center site and officiating at numerous memorial and funeral services after the 9-11 attacks.
