The cost of housing migrants continues to mount in New York State.

40th district Senate Candidate Gina Arena of the Hudson Valley crunched the numbers to try and highlight the financial damage of the the two-point-three billion dollars spent on migrant housing. Funding comes from different sources but she says so far it has theoretically costs each state taxpayer 215 dollars on average.

“New Yorkers have enormous hearts, but we have real needs of our own. Our road infrastructure is a mess, special needs families aren’t getting enough help, senior centers need rebuilding, and vital school projects go unfunded. At the same time, our taxes are through the roof.

She adds.

"The end goal here is to figure out how to take care of New Yorkers first."

Some elected officials have argued once migrants get authorized to work, they'll fill jobs in industries desperate for workers and will be paying taxes. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has repeatedly blamed the Biden Administrations for not helping New York enough financially with the migrant crisis.
