The facility in Newark, N.J., is among six U.S. ports that would be operated by Dubai Ports World under the controversial deal.

Thousands of port workers on East and gulf coast are on strike as they try and work out a new contract deal. New York officials say they have been preparing for this.

State officials do not expect a big disruption to the food supply at least not anytime soon depending on how long the strike lasts. Jackie Bray who heads the state's Homeland Security and Emergency Services says they when it comes to medical supplies, they should be good there for a while.

"We have Stockpiled particularly medical consumables and so we'll be opening up those warehouses if this strike were to continue to make sure there is no disruption."

State officials do expect the supply chain of vehicles to be impacted by the strike. Those working at the Port of New York and New Jersey are part of the strike. Port Authority says incoming container ships will anchor at sea during the strike.
