Fines start Monday for MTA bus lane camera enforcement program

NYC DOT

The MTA says starting Monday, it's going to start issuing fines for vehicles blocking bus lanes.

The MTA says there are more than 600 buses on 14 routes that have automated camera enforcement. There's been warnings issued to drivers caught on the bus mounted cameras blocking the bus lanes or double parking. However, starting today, The MTA's Frank Annicaro says warnings go away and instead 50 dollar fines will be mailed out.

"Stay out of our bus lanes. Do not block our bus stops. Do not double park. When in doubt you best be sure you are not blocking a bus route."

By the end of the year, more than one-thousand MTA buses will have cameras. MTA officials says the camera enforcement program will speed up bus routes.
