Nassau County bans face masks used to hide identities

A controversial face mask ban is now in effect in Nassau County.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman says there's been instances where people are using face masks while committing crimes. He signed a bill Wednesday that bans face coverings in public and on private property without consent of the owner. There are exceptions for religious and medical reasons.

"This is not an abridgement of anybody's rights. Nobody has a constitutional right to hide their identity in public."

Critics say the ban will be hard to enforce and The New York Civil Liberties Union says the ban is a dangerous misuse of the law to score political points and target protestors.
