As part of pilot program, over the next couple days, gun detectors will be be set up at certain New York City subway entrances in an effort to make the system safer.
A private company will be installing this newer scanner technology at a few subway entrance locations. It's unclear where but Mayor Eric Adams says they will help stop weapons from entering the system and will be a big part of the future of subway safety.
"Eventually, every turn style is going to be able to identify if someone is carrying a gun. I think it's a game changer for transportation systems across the globe."
The devices scan subway riders as they are entering without causing them to stop. The legal aid society has privacy and congestion concerns.
