NYC Subway crime numbers way down

New York City subway crime numbers continue to trend downward.

In the first half of the year, officials increased the number of officers in the subway system. They cracked down on fare evaders and added mental health professionals tending to the mentally ill. NYPD Chief Michael Kemper says that's lead to a nearly eight percent drop in crime in subway system year to date compared to last year.

"All areas of enforcement are up. Arrests, quality of life enforcement, fare evasion enforcement, weapons possessions."

Subway robbery numbers year to date are at their lowest level in history Mayor Eric Adams says if you take out the pandemic period when ridership was really low, the latest crime stats show the subway system is the safest it's been in 14 years.
