Newark will be implementing a curfew as part of its Summer Safety Initiative that officials unveiled on Thursday.

What's called the juvenile curfew engagement process will start on May 3rd. Newark officials say police who see minors on the street during overnight curfew hours without an adult will reach out to the The Wellness Response Team worker. The officer and worker will both bring the person home. This will be for Fridays Saturdays and Sundays until school lets out and then it will go into effect all week. Mayor Ras Baraka

"Our primary objective is to ensure that all Newark residents, including our youth, enjoy a safe and fun-filled summer."

The Summer Safety initiative also includes a number of programs including Movie Nights, Pop-Up Play Streets and Cops & Kids events.
