New York City is providing incentives to try and get truck deliveries moved to off hours.

DOT Commissioner YDanis Rodriguez says the agency's goal is to get 62-thousand daily trucks to shift from daytime delivery to off peak hours--between 7 pm and 6 a.m. by year 2040.

"Businesses try to make deliveries during peak hours. It doesn't work for anyone. The streets are more congested and deliveries are made more slowly."

The DOT will be using six million federal dollars to pay for incentives for businesses to shift deliveries to off hours. The incentives include paying for security to allow unattended deliveries and low noise equipment for delivery vehicles. The program is aiming to help smaller businesses that struggle to afford to transition to off-hour deliveries.
