Traffic moves along 42nd Street in Midtown Manhattan on Jan. 25, 2018. After decades of efforts by transportation advocates, the state of New York has approved a plan to add congestion pricing to the city, charging drivers who enter a designated zone of Manhattan.

A Staten Island lawmaker is introducing legislation in Albany to repeal congestion pricing for Manhattan.

Republican Assemblyman Mike Tannousis feels many Democratic lawmakers are opposed to congestion pricing but are keeping quiet on the controversial issue. He says he wants them to go on record with his legislation that seeks to kill it.

"Friends and my colleagues in the state Senate and the Assembly, wake up. Have the courage. Tell them no. It's time we stop this madness."

Tannousis says congestion pricing would increase traffic in Staten Island and the Bronx and increase the cost to drivers and commuters. . Tannousis says there's still time to get legislation passed to stop it. The MTA is looking to start the congestion toll in mid June.
