New York City is trying to prevent package thefts with a new one year pilot program.

A company called Go Locker will be installing lockers on public sidewalks for the public to use for packages. The lockers can hold 25 packages at a time. New York DOT Commissioner YDanis Rodriguez says the hope is to cut down on emissions and delivery truck miles and cut down on package thefts.

"These lockers are located in well lit areas with heavy foot traffic. They are equipped with security cameras."

New Yorkers can sign up for free and manage orders online. Go Locker is paying for what's called the Locker NYC pilot program.
