A total solar eclipse will take place in New York.

The moon will lineup between the Earth and the sun on April 8th creating darkness during the day for a brief time in portions of New York State. Director of State Operations Kathryn Garcia is urging drivers to have their gas tanks topped off that day and food water and a blanket in their vehicle.

"The timing of the eclipse obviously in the late afternoon overlaps with our everyday rush hour. This is a recipe for severe congestion."

Cell phone service may be disrupted as well. New Yorkers are being urged to not look directly at the sun during the eclipse without special eye protection. Special "I Love New York" eclipse glasses are being sold.
