Hochul takes steps to make NYC subway safer

Governor Kathy Hochul is taking a series of steps to combat a rise in New York City subway crime.

Governor Hochul's plan includes adding one-thousand National Guard, state police and MTA officers into the subway system. That is in addition to the City adding one-thousand NYPD officers last month. This in response to a 13 percent rise in subway crime on the year.

"Anyone looking to do harm or spread fear on our subways, you will be caught, plain and simple. There will be consequences. This has to end."

Hochul is sending more teams into the system to deal with people showing signs of mental illness. She's also backing legislation creating a three year ban for transit assault convictions.
