For the second year in a row, New York City is opening up a section of Fifth Avenue to pedestrians for holiday shopping.
There will be no vehicles allowed on Fifth Avenue from 48th to 59th Street from noon until six p.m. for three straight Sundays in December. Fifth Avenue Association President Marie Boster says the Open Streets program will welcome an estimated half a million pedestrians during that time for a unique holiday shopping experience.
"There will be performers. There will be musicians. There will be school choirs. There will be church choirs, all creating a real magical moment for visitors."
Mayor Adams Administration says a Mastercard study shows that businesses saw a 6.6 % increase in spending during last year's Open Streets program.
