Rental assistance coming for NYCHA residents

Rental assistance relief is coming to New York City public housing residents.

Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal says most tenants behind on the rent during the coronavirus pandemic were able to rely on emergency assistance, but public housing residents didn't have access to the same lifelines.

"Many tenants who lost their livelihoods during the height of the COVID 19 pandemic are still struggling under the crushing weight of mounting rental arrears and looming debt."

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the 95 million dollars from the state's Emergency Rental Assistance Program is now being sent to 15 thousand NYCHA households and more money is coming in the future. there's about 73 thousand NYCHA households behind on rent
