New York City is expanding its greenway network in all five boroughs.
The city is using federal grant money to build more than 40 miles of new protected bike and pedestrian greenway infrastructure to fill in the gaps of the existing network. Head of the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative Hunter Armstrong says this will give folks more commuter and recreation options.
"We believe greenways are critical infrastructure to address New York City's pressing social, environmental, transportation and economic issues."
Places getting new greenway include the Bronx, 15 miles of between Randall’s Island Park to SUNY Maritime. Also 12 miles of greenway is coming to Brooklyn from Coney Island to Highland Park. There will be 16 miles of greenway along the Queens waterfront.
