The Adams’ administration is laying out a plan to try and convert vacant offices into residential units for New York City.

The mayor is looking to convert unused office space around the city into 20 thousand residential units. Another part of his plan would rezone manufacturing areas in the southern part of Midtown to create 20 thousand homes. Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine says this would really help in time where rent prices have soared to record highs in Manhattan.

“Buildings in the garment district on the whole have two percent of their space being used as active garment manufacturing and so much of that other space is vacant."

The mayor appears to have the backing of the city council. Public hearings on the two plans are expected in the fall.
