The Legal Aid Society is calling for action following a rise in evictions in New York City.

Evictions numbers are still lower than they were before the coronavirus pandemic, but since the pandemic related eviction moratorium ended in January of last year, monthly evictions have sharply risen. Edward Josephson with the Legal Aid Society thinks things will get worse if no action is taken.

"Laws passed during the pandemic to protect tenants are expiring. The original housing crisis hasn't gone away, if anything It's gotten worse and so the rents are just as unaffordable as they ever have been."

The Legal Aid Society wrote a letter to city officials asking for more money for Right To Counsel tenant services and an expansion on city rent subsidies.
