We will have summer here in the Garden State, Accuweather says

Starting the week of July 4, look for drier conditions and warmer temps

It’s that time of year — late June — everyone wondering what kind of summer it’ll be, and so far the weather hasn’t quite measured up. But Accuweather meteorologist Bob Larson said things will change.

“The holiday week should be beginning to dry out again,” he said. “It will be very warm and sticky during that time, so as on any summer day there’s always the risk of a strictly pop-up thundershower in the afternoon and evening hours but I think it’s a much less rainy pattern once we get into next week.”

So no lousy summer?

"We do not believe this is gonna be a lousy summer,” he said. “It doesn’t mean that every day is gonna be beautiful, but we expect overall rain amounts to be pretty close to average, which means we will have our share of showers and thunderstorms from time to time but not continuous showers and storms like we have seen of late.”

And we should have plenty of hot days.

“We believe it will be overall a warmer than average summer, probably not on par with the heat that we had last summer but temperatures are still likely to run above the historic average,” he said.

Larson reminded us that while it’s pretty soggy here, other parts of the country are in the middle of extreme heat waves.
