There's a big decrease in the number of shootings in New York City in the first quarter of the year.
There's been a 23 percent drop in shootings from January through march compared to the same time frame last year. There's also been a nearly 13 percent drop in homicides. Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell says police have made the highest number of arrests year to date in 24 years.
"As we look back on the last three months along with the prior year, it is clear we have made progress but we know there is a lot more to do and we will continue to use every resource available to make our neighborhoods safe."
Sewell expressed concern about recidivism. She says the same 327 people have been arrested six thousand times for retail theft.
