New York City has reached a contract deal with its largest police union.
The eight year contract is retroactive back to 2017 and covers about 23 thousand PBA members. It includes wage increases ranging from two and a quarter percent to four percent and significantly bumps up rookie pay. Mayor Eric Adams.
"That will make sure our officers get the benefits and compensation they deserve and allow to work a more flexible schedule and build morale going forward."
The department has struggled to recruit and retain officers over the last few years. Part of the contract will include a pilot program to test out 10 to 12 hour shifts with more days off in part to help improve officer morale.
