Food pantries across New York State are bracing for more demand because of federal cuts along with potential state cuts.
Starting Wednesday, extra federal money for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program tied to the coronavirus pandemic is being cut. Dan Egan is the Executive Director of Feeding New York State. He says while food demand has come down some in New York, demand is still higher than pre-pandemic levels.
"Two weeks ago I was at a food distribution at Albany where we ran out of food. We had to tell people sorry, we got to send you away without giving you any food. The need is there."
Meanwhile, Eagan is also concerned about Governor Kathy Hochul's proposed budget that calls for cuts to a food pantry related program.
