Governor Kathy Hochul is trying to help more New Yorkers with childcare costs and make it easier to apply for assistance.

Hochul is proposing to raise the income limit for families to qualify for childcare assistance to about 93 thousand dollars. That makes about 113 thousand more children eligible for state aid. Wanda Carter is with an early childcare education program in the Bronx.

"The governor's announcement means that identifying and being able to afford quality childcare services will now be available to all New Yorkers that need it."

The governor is also proposing to streamline and centralize the assistance application process to replace a system that she says is difficult to navigate.
