Triple A is predicting the third highest travel volume ever for a Thanksgiving holiday this week. Most of the 54 million people heading 50 miles or more from home will do so by vehicle. Triple A’s Robert Sinclair says the best time to hit the road is early Wednesday morning or before 11 am on Thanksgiving. Outside of that, Sinclair says the already heavily traveled main roads in New York City will see additional volume including the Belt Parkway and LIE.

“The Staten Island Expressway is going to be the worst road in the country as far as increases in traffic over normal with a 158 percent increase.”

Triple A is predicting an eight percent increase in air travelers compared to last Thanksgiving and a huge increase in those going on cruises.
