New York City is making a major change on how garbage is handled in order to try and reduce the number of rats.

Under New rules set to go into effect in April of next year, residents and businesses can no longer put their garbage out as early as 4 p.m. They would have several options resulting in garbage being placed out later. Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

“And we are coming to collect more of it earlier. Those two things come together shrink the amount of time dramatically an average trash bag will spend on the streets.”

The hope is to reduce the rat population while also creating more room on the streets and keeping them cleaner. Rat complaints are way up the lasts couple years.
