Crime is up in New York City and one poll shows many New Yorkers think they would be better off living elsewhere.

Newly released NYPD crime stats show overall crime was up 36 percent in March compared to March of last year. That includes a rise in shootings, robberies and hate crimes but a decrease in murders. Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell notes arrests are also way up.

“We are arresting record numbers of people for shootings and homicides and we are clearing more cases, helping to deliver justice to victims.”

Meanwhile, a Fontas Advisors/Core Decision Analytics poll finds 59 percent strongly or somewhat agree with the statement that their family would have a better future if they left New York City. Voters overwhelmingly say crime is the most important issue.
