MTA Names New Head For NYC Subway And Bus System

Tom Kates

The MTA is naming a new President for New York City Transit.

Richard Davey has held several transit leadership positions in Massachusetts and has a background in every mode of public transportation. He’ll take over the city's subway and bus system May 2nd. He says his goal is to deliver on-time and efficient service and look at ways to improve the system. Danny Pearlstein with the Riders Alliance is reacting.

“Anything he can do to speed up bus service and speed up train service within his own powers he should do right away and make that his top priority, but then he should work with the governor to win more resources to run buses and trains more frequently.”

Davey takes over at a time when subway ridership numbers are only a little over half of what they were before the coronavirus pandemic.
