There’s an investigation into a huge increase in utility bills for many throughout New York State.
State Senator James Skoufis says energy prices have skyrocketed much higher than the increase in natural gas. There’s also been billing errors. He says the Committee on Investigations and Government Operations will be sending out notices to utility companies, power suppliers and state regulators.
“Something else is going on here and we are going to try and find out if utilities or the suppliers or someone else along that chain are profiteering from this crisis.”
He says in the Hudson Valley, there are utility bills now as high as 17 hundred dollars for small homes. Central Hudson blames the increase on the rise in natural gas prices, higher usage and other reasons.
