Lawmakers Mulling Over Suspending The NY State Gas Tax

A New York state lawmaker is introducing legislation in an attempt to ease the pain at the gas pump.

The New York Gas Tax Relief Act would suspend the state’s 48 cent a gallon gas tax until September 1st. It’s unclear the impact it would have on prices at the pump but Senator Peter Oberacker who is introducing the bill is hoping it translates into a 48 cent drop.

“Anything we can do to help on a family budget in the areas I represent is not only warranted but it is needed.”

Gas right now is around four and a half dollars for a gallon of regular in New York State. Experts put most of the blame for the high prices on the Russia invasion of Ukraine.
